In Lecture 7 of the Gospel of Saint John, we enter the great Bread of Life discourse of John 6. Beginning with the multiplication of the loaves, moving through Christ’s walking on the sea, and culminating in His shocking command to eat His flesh and drink His blood, this lecture shows how Jesus reveals Himself as the new Moses, the Lord of creation, and the true bread from heaven. Along the way, we explore covenant, testing, the poverty of the “weak party,” the meaning of the Eucharist, and Peter’s decisive response: “Lord, to whom shall we go?” A rich and challenging meditation on why the Eucharist is not a symbol to admire from afar, but a mystery into which we must enter.
